POSITION OVERVIEW

The Head Cashier is responsible for managing all cash handling activities at the front desk and ensuring accuracy and security in financial transactions. This position ensures compliance with accounting procedures, and collaborates with other departments to provide excellent guest service while maintaining financial integrity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  • Manage and supervise all cashiers at the front desk, providing guidance, training, and support to maintain efficient and accurate cash handling practices
  • Oversee and process financial transactions, including guest payments, room charges, and deposits, while adhering to hotel policies and accounting procedures
  • Ensure that all cash transactions, including receipts and petty cash, are accurately recorded and reconciled at the end of each shift
  • Prepare daily cash reports, balancing summaries, and other financial documents, providing accurate accounting data to the finance department
  • Address guest inquiries related to billing, payments, and other financial matters, offering prompt and professional assistance
  • Collaborate with the front desk team to ensure seamless guest check-in and check-out processes, providing support during peak hours and addressing any operational challenges
  • Train new cashiers on cash handling procedures, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and customer service protocols to maintain a knowledgeable and customer-centric team
  • Compliance and Security: Adhere to all cash handling and accounting procedures, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and security standards to safeguard against theft and fraud
  • Demonstrate exceptional guest service skills, addressing guest concerns and feedback to ensure guest satisfaction
  • Conduct regular audits of cashier transactions and cash drawers, identifying discrepancies and taking corrective actions as necessary
  • Handle complex billing or payment issues, collaborating with the finance department and other stakeholders to find timely resolutions
  • Temporary or permanent duties and responsibilities may be added to or modified as deemed necessary

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional education in accounting or finance is advantageous.
  • 1-3 years experience in cash handling in high volume/pace luxury environment, preferred
  • Proven experience as a cashier or in a financial role, preferably in the hospitality industry
  • Excellent numerical aptitude and proficiency in cash handling procedures, POS systems, and financial software
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage cashiers and financial transactions effectively
  • Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accurate accounting and reconciliation of cash transactions
  • Customer-centric mindset with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to address guest inquiries and concerns
  • Integrity and trustworthiness in handling financial transactions and confidential information
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include nights, holidays, and weekends
  • Work in a fast-paced, busy, and somewhat stressful environment

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES    

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Member must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.

SALARY
